Fadi Nukta, MD is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in the Arlington, Reston and other Virginia areas with specialties in Plastic Surgery of the face and body, Migraine Surgery and Hand Surgery. He is the founder and director of NOVA Plastic Surgery.
The vision to enter the field of plastic surgery was rooted in Dr. Nukta at a very young age. It was through a personal childhood surgical procedure that he became interested in entering the line of work. The surgery was performed by a plastic surgeon who was also a family friend. After the surgery, Dr. Nukta took an interest in plastic surgery and the care bestowed upon him by the doctor. This surgeon was someone Dr. Nukta truly respected. It was by experiencing his own surgery that he decided he would dedicate his life to helping people live, look and feel better.
After finishing medical school, Dr. Nukta completed a rigorous 9 year surgical training during which he excelled. This training included:
1- A one year surgical research fellowship, at the Department of Surgical Sciences at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Jersey.
2- A 5-year residency in general surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, one of Yale University major teaching affiliates in New Haven, Connecticut. During his last year he served as a Chief Surgical Resident.
3- A one year hand surgery fellowship at the world renowned Kleinert’s Hand Institution in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was honored to be part of the surgical team performing the only arm transplants in the country at the time. That year included heavy training in microsurgery and peripheral nerve surgery.
4- A 2-year plastic surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts. During his second year of training he was able to spend time with and learn from world famous cosmetic surgeons in New York City and Boston. Dr. Nukta was recruited as an attending surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Massachusetts, School of Medicine, home of the Nobel Prize winner Craig Mello, PhD.
Throughout his long training, Dr. Nukta examination scores were consistently in the 90th percentile (when compared to all surgical residents in the country). He recognized early in his training that superb surgical skills can only be gained through constant practice. He finished residency and fellowship with more than 2500 surgical procedures under his belt. He has numerous research publications and has presented surgical research papers nationally and internationally.
During his tenure as an attending surgeon at the University of Massachusetts he was heavily involved in surgical residents and medical students’ education. He held workshops to teach surgical interns the proper suturing techniques. He also mentored residents in preparing research projects on Migraine surgery and Wide Awake Surgery of the Hand (WASH).
Dr. Nukta and the staff at NOVA Plastic Surgery are committed to giving back both to the local community and to people in other countries. Dr. Nukta has gone on multiple cleft-lip mission trips and has participated in several trips to South America and the Middle East to help less fortunate children.
While Dr. Nukta truly enjoys living and running his plastic surgery practice in Northern Virginia, he also likes to travel and experience different cultures. He travels around the US and recently has made excursions to places as far as Qatar, Istanbul, Dubai and Damascus.
Dr Nukta just received the great honor of being named recognized in the “Guide to America’s Top Surgeons” in 2013.
