Skin texture changes are one of the three aspects of facial aging (the other two being droopy skin and volume loss). The term includes a number of concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, acne scarring, uneven skin tone, and dry skin. All of these concerns can be addressed with a chemical peel. Here, we have gathered some of the more common questions associated with chemical peels:

What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a minimally invasive way to remove damaged skin and expose the younger, newer skin underneath in order to reduce the appearance of skin texture changes and give your skin a more rejuvenated, fresher look. Chemical peels come in a variety of ingredients and strengths, and can be tailored to your specific issues.

What Can a Chemical Peel Do?
The benefits will depend on the exact type of peel and strength of peel you and your surgeon select. Many peels will help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scares, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, existing acne, rough patches on the face, leathery texture from sunbathing, and age spots.

What Are the Risks?
Risks of a chemical peel can include changes in skin tone, redness, hyperpigmentation, irritation of the skin, and activation of pre-existing cold sores.

What is Recovery Like?
This also depends on the type and strength of the peel. Some peels will require no downtime or after care, other than the use of a moisturizer with an SPF. You might not even peel afterwards. With stronger peels, you may require a downtime of a few weeks, and see more peeling of the treated areas. These stronger peels are generally administered by a surgeon, while the less dramatic peels can be done by a certified esthetician.

How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost?
Peels generally cost +$150, and best results are achieved by having a series of 4 peels done with two weeks between treatments. Stay tuned to our newsletter for special discounts and offers.
