There are several factors to consider when deciding whether or not to get a facelift, including the types of procedures, recovery time, and risks involved, which we discussed earlier in the week
But what about facelift results? How much younger will you look after getting a facelift? How long do the results last? Is a facelift anything like Botox injections, where youll need to repeat the procedure sometime down the road? After all, a facelift is real surgery, and who wants to sign up for multiple surgeries?
These are all valid questions that potential facelift candidates may have. Lets begin with the last questions: do you need to repeat a facelift down the road in order to maintain the results? The answer is no.
The facelift will make you look x number of years younger, and you will continue to look x number of years younger even as your face naturally ages. You do not need to get another facelift to maintain your results, though you certainly can if you and your doctor decide its right.
So exactly how much younger will you look if you get a facelift? It varies from person to person, but a study conducted and published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery shows that most people look six to eight years younger after a facelift. The average patient looked 7.2 years younger after surgery, and patients who had also undergone additional procedures (neck lift, eyelid lift) looked even younger.
The factors that will influence how long you look after a facelift include genetics and your behavior after the surgery. Sun exposure can age you more quickly. Your diet and exercise level will influence the results, as will whether or not you smoke and whether or not you are in your optimal weight range.
The results of a facelift will last for several years. If the procedure made you look six years younger, you will continue to look six years younger barring any changes in your habits or major weight fluctuation.
What a facelift will not do is stop the aging process completely. Your face and neck will continue to age naturally after the surgery, though it is possible to have revisions done if your surgeon agrees.
Having a facelift is a major decision. You should be making the decision to make yourself happy, and not to satisfy anyone else. Have realistic expectations and be aware of the risks and recovery time involved.
