What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a process whereby a professional uses a pulsating laser light to inhibit the hair follicles ability to grow hair. Laser hair removal targets the follicle itself, not the top of the skin. The hair follicle is like the root of the hair. So stopping hair growth at the root with laser hair removal is more effective than shaving or waxing. When you wax or shave, you are only removing hair from the surface of the skin, and you leave behind hair between the follicle and the epidermis layer of the skin. That is why hair that has been shaved or waxed reappears much faster than hair that has been removed with laser hair removal.

How Often Should I Get Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a series of six to eight treatments that generally take place over a period of time. Each time you receive a treatment, you can expect a brief recovery time, which is usually practically pain-free. By the time you have your last treatment, you can expect to enjoy lasting hair-free skin for an extended length of time. Since every patient is unique, everyone will have different results.
After your very first treatment, you will see noticeable results. By your last treatment, you will see dramatic results. Since the laser tool targets individual hair follicles, its possible that over a period of time you will notice some hair growth returning. In that case, you will want to have a follow up appointment to take care of those small areas with returning hair growth. Some patients never need a follow up visit, while others opt for one or more follow up visits. It all depends on your particular situation.

Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?
Laser hair removal is considered safe when it is done by a licensed technician. It is a treatment that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and it is associated with only minor side effects. Side effects that may occur with laser hair removal include swelling, redness, or minor skin irritation. If you do experience any of these side effects, simply apply an ice pack and take an over the counter pain medication if desired. Any side effects will swiftly pass.

Can I Try Out Laser Hair Removal First?
Since laser hair removal is done on small sections at a time, you can opt to try out the procedure on a test area first. This will allow you to feel and see the results. Then, if you like what you see, you can have more extensive laser hair removal done on those areas of your body where you want less hair.
