Plastic Surgery and New Year's Resolutions

Schedule a Consultation
Posted December 31, 2012 in News

The year 2012 is drawing to a close, and its an excellent time to sit back and reflect on the goals you might have missed over the last twelve months. You can then re-adjust those goals for 2013 in the form of New Years resolutions.

Many of us make health or appearance-based New Years resolutions, the most common, of course, being to lose weight. Quitting smoking is another common New Years resolution- and if youre planning on having plastic surgery in Ashburn in 2013, you will want to follow both of these resolutions.
Smoking
Smoking can seriously impede your recovery process after plastic surgery. It will lengthen your recovery time and can even lead to complications. If youre having a procedure in 2013, quit smoking as soon as possible (or at least 6 weeks before the procedure).
Smoking will also lessen the efficacy of any procedures you have to your face. The pursing of the lips and squinting of the eyes that naturally happens when you smoke can lead to expression lines in those areas, or deepen the ones you already have. If you have a procedure to correct those issues, such as dermal fillers or a brow lift, continuing to smoke will increase the need for corrective procedures down the line.

Weight Loss
If you are resolved to lose weight in 2013, try to lose it before you schedule a plastic surgery procedure. Large amounts of weight fluctuation after a procedure can have a negative affect on your results. For example, if you have a breast lift and then experience large amounts of weight gain and then loss, you might notice that your breasts are not as lifted as they were after the procedures.
You will also need to get as close to your goal weight as possible before having liposuction or a tummy tuck. Losing or gaining weight after those procedures can lead to a lumpy appearance at the liposuction site, or stretched-out skin at the site of the tummy tuck.

Looking Your Best
If your 2013 resolution is to look your best, there is a procedure that can help you get there (whether surgical or non-surgical). If you want to look more youthful and radiant next year, a laser facial or chemical peel might be the solution for you. Want to get your pre-baby body back? Consider a mommy makeover.
