So you’ve been considering getting a breast augmentation, but aren’t sure if you’re a good candidate for the procedure? Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgeries, and women undergo the procedure for a large variety of reasons. However, there are a few sure signs that you’re ready to go for it!
-
You’ve been pregnant and/or breastfed, and your breasts no longer look like they did before you had children. You’ve watched your diet and started an exercise regime, but nothing will return your breasts to their former volume. Breast augmentation can help you get your pre-baby body back in ways that diet and exercise cannot.
-
You’re generally confident, and want your body to match that confidence. You have high self-esteem and a healthy self-image. You’re happy with yourself and don’t suffer from depression, and you wish your exterior appearance matched your swagger! A breast augmentation will give you the curves to match your personality.
-
You’re not getting a breast augmentation for anyone but yourself. If you’re doing it to make someone else happy, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons.
-
You’re in good shape and don’t smoke, and are over 18 (for saline implants) or 21 (for silicone implants). This will make recovery time shorter and less uncomfortable, and decrease your risk of potential complications.
-
You can handle the recovery. You’ll need someone to drive you home, and you’ll need help for the first day or two after surgery (especially if you have small children, since you can’t lift anything heavy for the first few days). You’ll need to be able to take off work for about two weeks, and will need to be able to handle being still on the sofa or in your bed for about two or three days.
-
You are financially able to handle the cost of the procedure.
If you meet these guidelines, you’re a great candidate for a breast augmentation! Many patients also come in with a good idea of what they want their breasts to look like post-surgery. While cup sizes aren’t very precise, you can bring in a bra in the size you want your breasts to be, just to give your surgeon a general idea of where you want to end up. Your surgeon will also have sizers to help you select exactly what size you want to be.
