The sun is shining and the snow is melting, so spring is just around the corner! A change of seasons means a change in your skincare routine, so as the weather warms up put a few of these tips into practice to help your skin recover from winter and prepare for summer.
Winter skin is dry skin: its often scaly, rough, and itchy. As spring rolls in, pamper your skin to help it recover and get back your smooth skin texture. Continue using a heavy-duty, oil-free moisturizer after you wash your face and before bedtime. If your driest skin is on your feet, coat your feet in moisturizer and put on thick socks before bed. Your skin will be noticeably softer in the morning.
Spring is also an excellent time to start your hair removal regimen. Laser hair removal is less uncomfortable than waxing and permanently removes the hair, but it takes a few sessions to totally remove the hair from an area of the body. Starting in the spring will mean youll be hair-free before summer! Exfoliating the area gently in the weeks before you start removing the hair will make it faster and safer- use something like a brown sugar scrub (not on your face) once a week before the laser hair removal sessions.
Begin using an alpha-hydroxy skin care product on your face as spring approaches. Alpha-hydroxy is an exfoliating chemical that will help remove dead, dry skin cells that winter brings. As the dead skin is removed, your face will look brighter, more moisturized, and rejuvenated. Another way to combat dry, rough looking skin is to apply a moisturizing facial mask and sit in front of a steamer for about twenty minutes, once a week until spring arrives. The steam will allow your skin to more effectively absorb the moisturizing properties of the mask. If you have questions about what skin care products to choose, call our office at (703) 574-2588.
If you have rough, dry patches of skin on your face due to winter dryness, a laser photofacial is an excellent option for correcting the issue. A laser photofacial uses laser heat to remove dry and rough patches, exposing the smooth, clear skin underneath. Laser photofacials are done outpatient and usually take two hours or less. The recovery takes around ten days, so your skin will be vibrant and new in time for the full swing of spring.
