Skin texture changes are one of the most visible signs of aging, since it encompasses a wide variety of changes in our skin as we get older. Skin texture changes can include wrinkles, dry skin, age spots, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, leathery skin, and more. Each individual person will have their own skin texture changes that develop due to genetics and lifestyle changes.

When combined with the other two aspects of facial aging (droopy skin and volume loss), skin texture changes can make you look much older than you feel. One way to combat the effects of these changes is with a laser MicroPeel.

What is a MicroPeel?

A laser MicroPeel is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure performed in our office with our Sciton laser system. The peel removes a thin layer of damaged skin, revealing the newer, fresher, undamaged skin underneath. The Sciton laser system can be programmed at whatever depth is necessary to correct your individual concerns, giving you the least possible down time or side effects.

How Does it Work?

The lasers beam is passed over the damaged area, at the specified depth, removing the top layer of skin. New skin cells will cover the treated area, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dry skin, uneven complexion, uneven skin tone, freckles, and giving your face a rejuvenated appearance.

What is a Laser MicroPeel like?

The procedure is done in-office and can usually be completed in 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Most patients will not even require any anesthetic. If you are have a MicroPeel done at a deeper setting, you may be given some numbing cream to help with any possible discomfort. When you leave, you may have some redness, or notice that the treated area looks flaky- this is the skin that will peel away in the next few days.

What is Recovery Like?

It depends on your specific treatment, but you will probably feel like you have a mild sunburn for a few days. You may have some peeling or irritation in the treatment site. You will be able to return to normal activities outside the home in about three days, making this the perfect treatment to have done over a weekend. You will notice immediate results after the peel.
