Sagging skin is just one of the aspects of facial aging. There are two other components of facial aging that combine to make us look older: volume loss (fat loss that makes our features look thin and sunken) and skin texture changes, like wrinkles or sun damage.
There are several causes of sagging skin, including gravity, collagen and elastin loss, and lifestyle choices like smoking. This month, we are discussing the various treatment options available for combatting sagging skin.
A Sciton MicroLaser Peel is done with our newest tool: the Sciton Joule laser system. It is a method of facial resurfacing that offers a number of benefits: decreased appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, decreased appearance of acne scars, freckles, blemishes, and age spots, and tightening of the skin through stimulation of new collagen growth.
Collagen, a protein in our skin that gives it firmness, deteriorates as we age. This leaves our skin looser and more apt to becoming droopy. The MicroLaser Peel targets existing collagen in the skin, encouraging the growth of new collagen and making the skin firmer and tighter. While it wont get rid of excess skin or jowls, it will tighten skin that is mildly looser than you want it to be.
The Sciton Joule laser is very customizable, so the peel can be adjusted to whatever depth is most appropriate for you. This precision allows our aesthetician to give you a uniform peel without any unnecessary downtime, discomfort, or side effects. And along with tightened skin, you will get all the other benefits of the peel, giving your face a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
The procedure can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on your situation, and the recovery time will vary based on the depth of the peel youve selected. For most peels, you will feel like you have a mild sunburn afterwards, and will notice some peeling in the two to three days following. Any redness will fade in about two to three days, and you will be able to wear makeup after about three days. During the peel, you will be given a topical anesthetic to prevent discomfort.
