Neck Lift Surgery (Lower Facelift)
As we age, we develop loose skin, stretched muscles, and displaced fat deposits. These can cause wrinkles, sagging, and muscle banding in the face and neck.
Our MedSpa offers a wide range of treatments designed to keep signs of aging at bay. With regular maintenance, these treatments combat wrinkles and sagging in the face to provide a non-surgical alternative to facelift surgery.
Unfortunately, there aren’t effective methods to restore a youthful neck without neck lift surgery.
What Is a Neck Lift?
Neck lift surgery (also known as a lower facelift or lower rhytidectomy) is a procedure that addresses the following concerns:
- Unwanted fat deposits on the neck
- Sagging jowls
- Loose and sagging skin beneath the chin and on the neck
- Muscle banding along the neck
This cosmetic surgery procedure works by tightening the excess skin and muscles of the neck and removing unwanted skin and fat. The overall effect of this procedure is a smoother, tighter, younger-looking neck and jawline.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Anyone looking for a solution to sagging neck skin or neck muscle banding is a potential candidate for a lower facelift.
There are no age restrictions on neck lift surgery. Ideal candidates are in good health and have realistic expectations of their results.
Contact UsWhat Will Be Discussed During My Neck Lift Consultation?
During your consultation, your board-certified plastic surgeon will evaluate your condition and recommend a treatment plan.
If a neck lift will meet your needs, your surgeon will explain how the procedure works. He will also answer any questions you have about the operation and the results it can provide.
Can I Combine My Neck Lift With Other Procedures?
If you have additional aesthetic concerns, your surgeon may recommend a combination surgery or treatment.
This may include one or more of the following:
- KYBELLA® to address minimal excess fat below the chin (submental fat)
- Liposuction treatments to remove larger amounts of fat below the chin
- A liquid facelift procedure to non-surgically treat facial skin quality, hollows, and sagging
- Facelift surgery (full facelift or mini facelift) to correct significant sagging and deep wrinkles in the cheeks, lower face, and jawline
- Brow lift surgery to address wrinkles and drooping above and between the eyes
- Microneedling treatment with platelet-rich plasma to increase collagen production, reduce crepiness, and improve skin quality
How Is a Neck Lift Done?
Neck Lift Incisions
During the operation, Dr. Nukta or Dr. Zahir may perform neck lift surgery using traditional incisions behind the ears. This involves two small incisions behind the ears and within the hairline.
Alternatively, they may use a short scar technique, which is sometimes referred to as a mini neck lift.
If the short scar technique is used, the incisions are smaller and made around the ear but not in the hairline. This helps hide scarring but may reduce the amount of correction possible.
Lifting the Neck Tissues and Tightening the Muscles
Your plastic surgeon will use the incisions to lift the underlying tissues of the upper neck. This may include tightening the platysma muscles to reduce neck banding.
Removing Excess Neck Fat
Next, he will remove unwanted fat deposits. This may require a small incision under the chin to perform liposuction surgery.
Neck Skin Tightening and Removal
Finally, he will tighten your neck skin and remove the excess. This secures your new facial contours in place.

Before & After
What Is Neck Lift Recovery Like?
Most patients recover from neck lift surgery and return to work within a week or so. However, you should avoid vigorous exercise for at least three to four weeks after your surgery to be safe.
During your initial recovery period, you should expect minor pain, swelling, and bruising around your incision sites. These symptoms can usually be managed with prescription medication and should pass quickly.
When Will I See My Lower Rhytidectomy Results?
The results of a neck lift should be visible within a week or two as swelling fades. Final results may take a few months to fully develop and should last about 10 years.
