Power-Assisted Liposuction for Body Sculpting in Ashburn, VA
What Is Power-Assisted Liposuction?
Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) is a type of liposuction that uses a specialized cannula to remove fat.
Traditional liposuction uses a cannula that is basically a hollow tube. It works well for suctioning out fat, but it has some downsides.
Power-assisted liposuction surgery uses a cannula that vibrates. This vibration helps break up fat deposits throughout the treatment and makes them easier to remove. As a result, PAL can be performed faster, eliminate more stubborn deposits, and provide greater precision.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Power-Assisted Liposuction?
Ideal candidates for PAL are people with unwanted fat deposits on their body. They often desire a more slender, contoured physique that cannot be achieved with diet and exercise.
A powered cannula gives your plastic surgeon greater control over the results. Therefore, it makes sense to choose this procedure if you desire precise body contouring treatment.
What Will Be Discussed During My Liposuction Consultation?
During your consultation, your board-certified plastic surgeon will explain the procedures available and help select which will help you most. They will also examine your physical condition to provide you with personalized recommendations.
Here at NOVA Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, we are proud to say that we do not push unnecessary procedures. If you have a concern, we will ensure you meet with a specialist who can provide you with options to address it.
Patients interested in non-surgical fat reduction may benefit from CoolSculpting® or KYBELLA®.
How Is Power-Assisted Liposuction Performed?
Power-assisted liposuction is performed in a similar manner to traditional tumescent liposuction. This procedure uses local anesthesia for patient comfort.
A small incision is made in or near the treatment area, and the cannula is inserted. Tumescent fluid is injected through the cannula to help break up the fat cells and constrict the blood vessels.
Then, unlike other types of fat removal, the cannula will vibrate to break up the fat deposits further. The vibrating cannula can slip through hardened fat and other tissue more easily. This allows your surgeon to extract more difficult fat deposits.
How Does PAL Work for Body Sculpting?
Power-assisted liposuction can accentuate the appearance of muscle tone and create specific body contours. This body sculpting procedure is sometimes called liposculpture. Your surgeon will carefully extract fat from specific locations and leave it in others to craft your new body contours.
When contouring the abdomen to create a six-pack, for example, your surgeon will extract lines of fat across your abdomen. Then, your remaining fat will be smoothed out to create natural-looking six-pack abdominals.
Finally, the unwanted fat and tumescent fluid are suctioned out, and the incisions sealed.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Ashburn?
The cost of power-assisted fat removal will vary depending on the number of treated areas and amount of fat removed. The more precise sculpting involved, the more time, effort, and expense will be needed.
Patients with excess abdominal skin often combine power-assisted liposuction with tummy tuck surgery, which can dramatically affect the overall cost of surgery.
Schedule a ConsultationHow Long Does Power-Assisted Liposuction Recovery Take?
Most patients will need three to five days to recover before returning to work. This period may increase if your surgeon removed multiple fat deposits. Most patients can resume daily activities within a week and vigorous exercise within two to three weeks.
Recovery after power-assisted liposuction is shorter and easier than traditional liposuction.
There are two major reasons for this:
- Increased precision means less overall tissue damage, including internal bruising
- Smaller incisions are needed, which makes healing faster and easier
When Will I See My Liposculpting Results?
Patients will see initial results within a week or two as swelling fades. Final results may take up to six months to fully develop.
